Dave from Van Ness called and was very informative. I explained my situation and of the pending need to replace my engine and I hope to do it over the winter after this season ends. He suggested a model 80 that has 10 more horsepower than what I have now. Because of the age of my present engine I never go very fast - I chug along at 2000 rpm which becomes a problem when other boaters come close to see my old boat, create a huge wake, and then I have a problem getting away from them!

All I can say to all is: Thanks to all who helped me and I'll let you know how it goes from here.

  Peter --

George referred you to the best for old engine replacement -- Van Ness. I have a 1953 Palmer Scott
inboard that had a Chrysler Ace 90 HP. I came very close to getting a replacement engine through
Van Ness at a reasonable price. In the end, I found a Perkins 4-107, direct drive and installed
that engine with new mounts and wet exhaust muffler. You might look at this as a possibility --
Though it is not considered "orginal" I can tell you that I have many more willing passengers who
want to come for a boat ride due to the safety of my diesel --- no more down draft carbuerators!!
