[Public-list] Missing Thru-hull?

Hey -
My original speedlog transducer was 5/8" diameter where it went through the
hull. It was long dead when I bought the boat. Since I thought I might
replace it some day, rather than permanently close the hole, I put a 5/8"
bronze bolt through the hole, with washers, nut, and bedding compound.
Don't use stainless (which is cheaper & easier to find), it does bad things
without air. This has remained solid for a number of years. Cost was less
that $15 total, and less work than properly re-fiberglassing the hole.
One could also just fill it with epoxy putty, perhaps with some fiberglass
cloth on both sides, and probably get away with it but I would be worried
forever more if I did that. Grinding out a bevel on each side & properly
re-glassing it would be a lot better if you are sure you will never use the
hole again.
