Go to 5/16" and make sure that you buy the proper length without threads all
the way to the head. The originals are 1/4" and threaded all the way.

I've been told that I should replace the original chainplate bolts as they
are liable to fail; my boat is 37 years old. Can you direct me to previous
postings on this issue, or simply tell me what style of bolts to replace
them with?
