I really think that's sufficient.  You might want to use some pipe dope 
like RectorSeal to give added sealing.

I think this is much better than leaving old brass valves such as the 
gate valves Whitby put into Calypso.  They crumbled when I went to 
remove them.  They were, by the way, NPT threads on top of the NPS 
through-hulls.
