It's never caused us any problems, and I can't imagine how it could. 
The water would have to flow up to the tank, in a bow down situation. 
And the worst I could do is fill the tank.

Just make sure you don't have any low spots in the hoses, or they'll 
form a water trap and cease to be an air vent.
