Hi there - 

The rivets were only intended to hold the deck down until the bolts went in
through the toe rails... There is no question replacing them with bolts is
better and will result in a stronger and more water-tight boat.

I had ash rails in my wooden boat - they were lovely (I think!) against the
dark blue hull.
