You are also comparing brake HP. (gas) to shaft HP. 
(Diesel). Tricky business.

My 15 HP. diesel delivers way more thrust (swinging a 
bigger wheel with more pitch) than the A4 ever did. Does 
that mean I need more power punching into a gale with 4' 
seas? Yep. I guess I do.
