one needs to be aware the first physiological effect of 
gas (specifically, the benzene in the gas) is it deadens 
the sense of smell. If you get an initial strong gas 
smell, it's hard to say whether steps taken to eliminate 
the smell worked, or your nose has become nonfunctional.
