[Public-List] rudderpost leak

I had the same problem on Tait Tait #478.The leak was where the rudder tube 
comes through the glass of the hull.If you inspect the hull on the outside 
immediately in front of the rudder you will see it is grooved vertically.On 
Tait Tait this groove has a vertical crack running down it ,almost as though 
the hull had been fabricate in two parts and joined.
While the boat was out of the water I carefully marked the leak on the 
inside,cleaned the area around it with acetone and excavated the   the hole 
about 1/4 inch.Then the hole was dried thoroughly (a borrowed hair dryer was 
useful) then the surrounding area was sanded and cleaned with acetone again 
The hole was then filled with resin and the whole area around the tube was 
covered with several layers of glass.This repair has lasted several 
years.One day I shall drop the rudder and do a proper job from the outside.
