John, that's an unusual installation, but I've heard of such a thing
before. Only in the case I heard about, one day the head quit pumping
properly. It turned out the vent was clogged, and the crap had filled
the mast up to the spreaders. Beware!
Of course, a more serious problem is the lack of airflow. If you've
only got one vent, you don't have any airflow anyway. But if you want
an odorless aerobic tank, then you want a good airflow through the tank
to replace CO2 with O2. Having a vent on each side of the bow will
ensure a pressure differential and at least some airflow. In my
experience, it seems to be enough.
