The question of how to measure the pole came up earlier this year on the racing list. The "proper" length of the pole
is such that when perpendicular to the mast, the measurement from the forward face of the mast to the inside
bearing surface of the outboard jaws is equal to 10' 9". This ensures the functional length of the pole is more or
less independent from the size of the various fittings in the system, and is also the way PHRF of the Chesapeake
measures.

Check Bacons, you can always get one that is a bit too long and cut it down.
