[Public-List] bottom paint/thin gelcoat

Randy,

 From what I understand, the gelcoat essentially serves no purpose 
beneath the waterline, so there's no need to re-gelcoat.  That is, it's 
a cosmetic surface.

If, for example, a boat is treated for blisters, they take ALL the 
gelcoat off -- and they don't put it back (in that case, they re-glass 
as necessary, then put on some layers of barrier coat [essentially 
epoxy paint], and then bottom paint).

If you have rough spots due to missing gelcoat patches, you could fair 
them if you wanted to.
