Oh, Man !  You quit too soon .  The first 25 strokes just overcome the inertia.  The next 25 would have got her up to speed and then momentum would have kept her going while you took a rest.  (-:

I don't understand...... I thought laughing was supposed to be good for your heart ??

  PS - I actually did try that w/ my Rhodes 19; mounted sculling oar locks on
  the combings (just the right distance apart), bought some used carbon oars
  (from Princeton rowing no less), fashioned a seat that fit over the
  centerboard trunk and did my first test row on a trip to the Jersey shore.
  In a 5 knot headwind with 1/2" waves and slack tide I think I got 5 boat
  lengths in 25 very hard strokes.  Fortunately the wind blew me back to the
  dock where the ambulance was waiting.  My back and heart are much better
  now, as long as I don't laugh.
