Roger,
 
Since this won't be competitive, and there won't be any testing, I'm thinking of steroids <vbg>!  In theory, once one has overcome inertia (yours and/or the boat's) and started the boat moving it should be fairly simple to keep the boat going in calm conditions and no current.
 
Thanks for a bit of fun in the midst of a patch of nasty weather (rain, freezing rain, snow and fog).
