A30 Folks,

For those of you who missed last Science Saturday's seminar from the
Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Edgewater, it was a great
presentation on invasive species and the health of the Chesapeake Blue Crab
population. Very informative. I know I learned a lot and there were many
questions, so it seemed like a lot of other folks did too. I didn't make the
afterparty at the Menucci's but I am sure it was wonderful. Thanks to them
for hosting it!

This coming Saturday at 2 PM we are going to have the Racing seminar which
will cover the racing schedule and we have a guest speaker (Aaron Serinis)
coming from the Chesapeake North Sails loft. His talk will be on the subject
of sail trim and will include interactive discussions with a sail trim
technique DVD that North uses for teaching their North U seminars. He will
also be covering sail change technique and I am sure it will be a very
informative discussion regardless of whether you are a racer or a cruiser. I
know that I always seem think that I really understand the finer points of
sail trim and then when I talk to a real professional about it, I always
manage to learn something new. So trust me this will be a great opportunity
to pick up some key professional insight into how to trim your sails for
best performance, controllability, and fun in all conditions. It will also
be a good chance to talk with a sailmaker about the possibility of picking
up a new sail if you have one that is getting to the end of its useful life
and needs replacement.

Feel free to invite your racing crews to come to the discussion as this is a
great opportunity for them to get some free knowledge about sail trim.
Everyone is invited to attend the seminar free of charge (there was some
previous confusion about this, for which I apologize). If you are an A30
owner but not an association member and want to come to the seminar, we will
have membership forms available at the seminar and would strongly encourage
you to consider joining the association.

The afterparty will be at Severn Sailing Association in Eastport (
http://www.severnsailing.org) and if you haven't been there it has one of
the best views in Annapolis. The afterparty will get started after the
seminar, probably around 5:30. There will be food and drink (including a keg
of yuengling, wine, soda, and water) provided.

Please keep in mind the time of 2 PM at the Eastport branch of the Annapolis
Public Library which is across from the entrance to Quiet Waters Park next
to West Marine in Eastport.

Also, there will be a racing happy hour discussion at AYC on this Wednesday
at 6 PM hosted by TC Williams. Hope to see you there as well!

Finally, if you have missed any of the seminars, Brian Palmer is turning
them into podcasts which will be freely available through both the
alberg30.org website as well as Brian's personal website at
http://www.chesapeakesailing.info/A30/. So you can catch up on them there.
Thanks to Brian for taking the initiative and the time to do that! It's a
great benefit for the association!

I hope to see you either Wednesday or Saturday or both!

J Bergquist
