You will find that the Yanmar likes a single handle shifter.  Both speed and 
direction on one lever.  My best suggestion is to go that route.  Vetus and 
Teleflex both make good reliable single lever units that run one cable for 
speed and one for shift.  You don't need the force to shift gears that your 
old handle has.  Also they want you to be forced to slow the engine when you 
shift.
