[Public-List] The Scoot

Very, very loosely modeled on the Jester Azores Challenge, a group of
sailors over at sailfar.net have started the idea of The Scoot, and I
thought perhaps some Alberg cruisers would be interested.

Basically, this is a 'gathering' of sailors who seek to meet a
smallish-but-long-enough offshore personal challenge; right now, the
plan is to sail from Beaufort, NC to some destination in the Bahamas,
offshore, in one roughly 650 nm leg. The above web site (new and under
development) has more detail about the philosophy of this "event," and
quite a few more people than those listed there are expressing interest.

Though such a trip may seem like old-hat to some, part of the purpose is
to introduce new offshore sailors to the rigors and realities of
passagemaking.

Scheduled date is April 2010, with pre-challenge preparatory 'events'
recommended for 2008 and 2009.

The admin of sailfar.net has provided some space on that board for Scoot
discussion: http://sailfar.net/forum/index.php?board=22.0
