I would either purchase an access hatch from Bomar or mfg my own as Joel has done. BUT the only way I would make this modification, that so much affects the seaworthyness of my boat, would be to also install a grating system which would span the hatch. I would not want the hatch to have to support the weight of crew or skipper in the cockpit. Bomar does make hatches which are probably strong enough to support such weight, but I would like the back up of the "bridging effect" of the grating system. My idea is that the hatch itself would provide the water tightness and the gratings the structural support needed. Perhaps Joel can comment more on his installation. > > > > I know that you already have a grating, so that aspect is covered. How are 'things' going on the deck painting and refurbishment? > > > > Michael > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Dave Terrell" <Dterrell at message.nmc.edu> > To: public-list at alberg30.org > Sent: Wednesday, February 11, 2009 11:41:36 PM GMT -05:00 US/Canada Eastern > Subject: [Public-List] saddle tanks and engine access > > I would lke to hear some people's experience with the following > > 1. installation of saddle fuel tanks in the port and starborad sail lockers > > 2. getting access to the rear portion of the A-4 engine by installing an access hatch in the cockpit. I am looking for an easier way to get to the impeller, etc. > > I would like to do the latter but think I would have to get rid of the current gas tank which is located directly over the engine. So the two topics are interrelated. > > Thanks > > David, 432 > _______________________________________________ > These businesses support your Association: > http://www.alberg30.org/store/A30supporters.html > Please support them. > _______________________________________________ > Public-List mailing list > Public-List at lists.alberg30.org > http://lists.alberg30.org/listinfo.cgi/public-list-alberg30.org > _______________________________________________> These businesses support your Association:> http://www.alberg30.org/store/A30supporters.html> Please support them.> _______________________________________________> Public-List mailing list> Public-List at lists.alberg30.org> http://lists.alberg30.org/listinfo.cgi/public-list-alberg30.org
