Randy,

I'm glad you piped in.  A little over-engineering is probably a good 
thing at the masthead.  There's no cascading chain of things that need 
to be strengthened as a result, and aluminum is light.  Only issue is 
it would probably be too gorgeous to mount so far from daily view.  
"Yeah, well, the reason my new masthead is on the coffee table and not 
the mast is that..." ;)

I'll send you a note off-list to follow up.

PS: I have the same mast and masthead as boat #121, so I would assume 
that if there is a "first generation" and a "second generation" that I 
have the first.
