[Public-List] inner forestay attachment

I am attempting to determine the best location to anchor an inner forestay.  The idea of attaching to the bulkhead in the anchor locker is appealing as the reinforcement required is already there.  However, this location is just over 40% of the length between the stem head fitting and the mast.

In theory, I have found that most boats doing a similar thing, locate the inner forestay at between 25 and 35% of the distance (most texts report this).  When I draw all the stays in to scale it looks ok and a calculation of the sail area required works out fine however the location is only 6 feet from the mast.  This calculation though is also theoretical as the storm sail area required depends on boat demensions (fore triangle) as well as boat design.  I have looked at all this assuming an inner forestay which runs parallel with the main forestay.

Not an easy decision to make so I would be interested to know if anyone has an inner fore-stay mounted here and what their experiences with the fitted storm sail are.   I have been through the archives however I could not find a reference to it.  I'd also appreicated any thoughts on this configuration by anyone who has anchored the inner forestay elsewhere.

Many thanks

Mick
