I have changed the little slotted brass screws on the cover to Allen screws the same size.  This makes life much easier since the Allen key stays in the screw and retains it for both removal and insertion.  When putting the cover on, secure it with a piece of thread so it is not lost in the bilge until you have one ot two screws in.  When you buy the Allen screws get a few extra in case you drop one.
