[Public-List] Loose-footed mainsail

John Boor; Does one need a cunningham if one has a sliding gooseneck, for proper adjustment? We do not officially race with Emotional Rescue but those of our club, Sail Chicago, who rent the boat are not really gung ho for adjusting the sail during a rental period of 5 hours. They just want to go bye-bye. As it has been in the past, most forget to even loosen the outhaul now at the end of a rental period.

Thanks to all who replied. Ed Schroeder

Ed

I have loose footed main on #380.  I started out with a foot shelf but
could not get the main to set good.  By removing the shelf I find the sail
sets better along with full battons, note the battons were installed
before the shelf was removed.  I also have a clew outhaul that is taken
back to the cockpit for adustment, I also use a cunningham and do find
this makes a different in the bottom 1/3rd of the sail.  Make note that if
you wish to compete in Alberg class racing the loose foot is not legal.
Order your main with full battons loose foot and cunningham cringle as
well as two reef points you will not be disapointed.
