[Public-List] Cockpit Drain Seacocks

Hi Guys,

Earlier today I emailed Yves Gelinas with the following: 

Yves,
 
We A30 owners are having a discussion on the A30 "page" about cockpit
drains.  One contributor who watched your circumnavigation movie noticed
drain holes in the counter of "Jean-du-Sud" and postulated you had added new
cockpit drains aft.  If you have a moment would you please confirm if this
is the case and, if so, let us know how they have worked.

And got the following reply:

Dear Roger : 

I went around the world with the original cockpit drains, which I had
considered adequate.  During my voyage, while in the Southern Ocean, I
received a few buckets or evens barrels of water when a sea broke against
the freeboard, but never filled the cockpit completely, which drained
quickly enough.  I was never "pooped" by a breaking sea, the stern raising
before the sea broke over the boat.

Naturally, I kept the stern lazarette light and avoided stowing any heavy
items into it.

The holes through the transom are the original bilge pump outlet and engine
exhaust (which served for an additional bilge pump after I removed the
engine).
