Dan, 

We have had massive fruit fly attacks in northern Michigan.  I have heard to place some vinegar in a shallow dish or jar lid to attract them and they drown.  I have also heard to mix a little dish soap and wine together and place in a shallow dish to accomplish the same.  Some folks also place Saran wrap over the dish and poke holes in the Saran wrap. The bugs go in thru the holes and binge and then drown.

ANYONE know of a sure fire way to eliminate bugs? specifically i think they are some type of mites. seems they blow into the boat from the marsh next to winter storage. this is in southwestern michigan
