Stephen,

Are the cracks emanating from the vicinity of a fastener?  If so, how  
careful were you to tighten the fasteners bit by bit, in a back and  
forth pattern (like you would a cylinder head).

I realize the fasteners don't go through the plastic.

Just a possibility.
