Seal the edges and I do not think you will have a problem.

I have a plan to use contact cement (the stuff they use to adhere plastic
laminate to kitchen counters) to fasten 1/8", 3 ply Oakum plywood to the
areas below on good old 148 that are now wood grain plastic laminate
(bulkheads, sides of bunks and galley. etc.). I refastened any delaminated
areas w/ epoxy and sanded the existing laminate.
Does the contact cement seem like a good way to attach the new paneling?
Does anyone know of problems doing this in a marine environment?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated?
