[Public-List] Engine question - remedy PS - big winds

Ain't 80 knots fun - ugh. June and I were hit with 85 knots or greater
during the first Fujinon 300 in '89. Spent 20 minutes with the mast head
about 6 feet off the water in massive lightening and searing rain. The storm
decimated the fleet, sank one of our competitors and killed its crew.

Not fun at all. Certainly reminds one of one's place in the Universe.

Humbling indeed - thank god fore 'n afters were developed.

Best

John

Thanks friends - I will be careful and work the issue as per your
suggestions. My linkages are more complex than they need to be due to
SURPRISE having the relatively rare factory-installed wheel steering. The
linkages are bolted to a series of plates between the fuel tank, the
steering cables and the underside of the cockpit sole. Oh well I'll manage.

We're racing tonight; our club is doing it's annual Snake Island Race, which
while not a distance affair is somewhat longer than our usual round the
buoys weeknight race. The weather forecast shows possibility of thunder
storms, which brings to mind the S.I.Race of 2006; a cracker of a squall
came through and sank one of the competitors. Afterwards I had crew hats
made for the SURPRISEs with her name on the front, and the date on the back.
We know what the date stands for. The wind went from south 1-3knots to
north west 80knts in the usual few seconds for a Great Lakes squall and blew
like that for about 40 minutes. Bruno and Elise... We most certainly
shortened sail!!!!!!
