Thanks, Gord. Were the old bolts aluminum or SS? Do you know if Lok-Tite or equal was around in '68? And, did they shear due to an accidental jibe? The guy who I think did it suggests that the overhanging bow of a large power boat hit the aft end of the boom while the boat was in it's slip!!! Of course, there is no damage to either the aft end of the boom or the backstay.

Same thing happened aboard SURPRISE.

Many of the bolts had sheared and others were bent.  I moved the track up
the mast 1/2" and re-drilled and tapped new holes for new bolts.  There is
plenty of strength in the bolt size the builders used... Trouble develops
when they work loose and play develops.
