Thanks to all for comments and suggestions concerning the zinc issue. Today
I found a prop nut zinc that fits the shaft with plenty of clearance for the
rudder besides. Blue Jay has until now lived in the fresh waters of Lake
Erie. She'll now be exposed to the Chesapeake Bay, so it will be
interesting to see how things hold up. As I have worked on her many systems
over the last 2 years I have continually been amazed at the good condition
of any metal structure on the boat. Even the Whitby thru-hulls that so many
have warned about replacing were in excellent condition. Still, they were
replaced. Thanks to all for the tremendous amount of invaluable information
both on the website and the forum. She'll be in the water in 2 weeks.
Hopefully the salty bay won't destroy what has survived for so long and so
well.
