There isn't any real reason to remove the boom sail track on the mast. We fixed our goosneck (to the highest position on the track for head room clearance in the cockpit) simply by removing one of the tack bolts and replacing it with hex-head bolt to act as a stop. I didn't even need to drill any more holes.
