[Public-List] hauling an Alberg 30 (Permit or no permit?)

If your trailer is within the width tolerances of DOT then I doubt that anyone will measure the boat unless it is obviously wider than the trailer.  They will most likely be concerned that  your axles' ratings exceed the combined load of the trailer and the boat and that your towing vehicle and brakes are up to the job.  If the DOT guy recognizes your boat as an Alberg 30 and knows that the beam is 8' 9" then he probably is a member of this group and the rest of us can make his life a misery if he causes you any grief <vbg>.
