The wires from my mast run to a waterproof fitting into the cabin top, 
something designed to pass the wires into the boat while keeping water 
out. Seems to be a rather standard item. It is actually a  plug, with a 
stainless screw cap, so when you take the mast down you simply unscrew 
the locking ring and pull the plug free. There is a solid cap on a short 
chain that you put on the thing so it stays dry while the mast is out.
