For those of you that leave your mast up in the winter and also loosen the shrouds to "prevent driving the mast heel in to the cabin top" you should be aware of the difference in the thermal coefficient of expansion between aluminum and stainless steel. Aluminum contracts MORE than stainless does with a drop in temperature. On a 35 foot aluminum mast with approximately the same length of shrouds, the mast will contract about 0.1" more than the shroud given a 100 degree F decrease in temperature.
