Thanks Ross,
I am sending requests for quotes out to a number of shops - I will
suggest they use the old part in the way you describe.

Subject: [Public-List] Mast Step

Mike,

Years ago, I had to have a new mast step made for Delphi. I had the
machine shop cut the shaped stud which fits in the bottom of the mast
out of the old mast step to use in the new step. We took a stainless
steel plate about 2.5 inches larger than the original mast step in both
length and width, traced the original mast step in the center to
properly locate the position of the
stud, slots for the 4 bolts and the edges of the original step. Next
we
cut the slots for the bolts, punched a number of holes around the edges
on all 4 sides and cut the corners so the edges could be bent up at a 45
degree angle to form a tray the bottom of which was the same as the
original mast step. The original stud was then drilled and tapped so it
could be bolted to the step in the proper location. The stud was cleand
up, painted with epoxy and bedded in 5200 to hopefully prevent a
galvanic reaction to the stainless steel. The holes in the upturned
edges of the mast step tray provide a handy attachment point for blocks
and a vang. I had to modify the front lip a bit because it interfered
with completely opeing the forward hatch. It has worked well for twelve
years.

Does anyone have a spare Mast Step?
Alternatively, does anyone have design or drawing or supplier for a new
one in stainless steel?

Thanks
Mike
