Hi -

I responded too quickly - the real issue is the one of stretch.  You need
low stretch.   You want to get the characteristics of wire, but without the
tendency to roll underfoot.  5,000lbs is a lot, and I reckon most lifeline
shackles aren't that strong, nor are the wearer's ribs!

A stretchy jackline will be more likely to ease the sailor overboard if he
falls.

I am on hold on the phone while in the midst of battling with Microsoft to
get my email software working, so far it's getting worse.   I apologize for
