Mike :
Have the rules been changed so that no head sail can fly with a
spinnaker? As of 2010, Chesapeake race rule (15D) specifically does
not allow spinnaker stay sails, but 'any allowed headsail may be flown
with the spinnaker'. Since the working jib has a luff of 30', that might
make the difficulties Gord has encountered with a chute and staysail
even greater.
Rule 14 D within the Canadian rules does allow spinnaker staysails.

At the same time, there may have been some very different ideas by
Aberg. It is my understanding that theAL30 was originally a fractional
rig design and it was Kurt Hansen who changed the forestay based on his
experience with Folkboats in Humber Bay at Toronto (light air and heavy
boats). Undoubtedly the headsail sizes changed then too.
Gord may wish to comment on the differences in designed rig between
a European and WBW Folkboat.
