The resistance to spin goes up as more current is taken from the alternator.  There is a small amount of friction and other losses, but otherwise it is quite easy to spin the alternator with no current draw.

I don't understand how this could be? The alternator is spinning regardless
of ignition state or current draw..and the resistance to spin the shaft is
the same..I think.
