[Public-List] Yamar 2cyl 15hp

At the seminar, the presenter had a 200 AMP alternator that he when charging
at full rate used 13 HP (his boat, a 39 ft. Pearson, had a 34 HP Yanmar). He
had a 3-position switch that he mounted on the engine panel that could be
switched to off/full charge/half charge. His point was that you need the
ability to 'manage' you electrical systems. He was very good and really
understood electrical systems.

If the batteries are low, the Alt output it high, ergo the load on the
engine is higher. Don't know how high but it is higher. When the bulk phase
has passed and it drops down to low output the load is considerably reduced.

You can hear the difference on some engines. Would never even think of
switch off the master switch though. Not worth the risk to the Alternator.
