[Public-List] Alberg 37 - Glenn, I'm your guy on this question

Hi Glenn,

Yup, I can speak from experience. We own Sunstone (or she owns us ; )

If you like the A-30, you'll be head over heels in love with the A-37. If
you can find one, get a Mk I. Sunstone is second to last of the Mk I's (Hull
# 65 - built in 1970).

The only deficiency in the design is the companionway, which can be easily
fixed by putting in wider flip up steps. Part of the bucket list I have yet
to complete.

I have single handed Sunstone, so if I can do it, so too can you.

The A-37 has a more purposeful motion than the A-30 that you will love. Like
the A-30, it can take far more than it's crew.

As for cracking, some A-37's, like the A-30, can have Gelcoat cracking due
to excessively thick application of Gelcoat. The advantage of an overly
thick Gelcoat is that one can buff the hull to a high luster even 40 years
after its construction. Sunstone still has her original Gelcoat and it
glows. Good carnauba wax is the answer and some elbow grease.

If you wish to contact me offline, send me your phone number in a PM to my
e-address and I'll call you to discuss. I have unlimited North American
calling.

Get one with the upgraded Westerbeke diesel, much better than the Volvo.

On the Mk I, none of the stanchions go through the deck core. Sunstone has
hybrid interior being a transition from the Mki to the MkII interior - IMHO
it is the best of both worlds.

Great boats. I do surveys, not soliciting, but I know these boats better
than any other surveyor I've ever met. I can walk you through the care and
feeding so when you find your baby, you'll be able to determine whether it's
the one for you and wort Next Steps - having the reasonable likelihood that
whomever you choose to survey will find her with few deficiencies.

And no, Sunstone is not for sale - period.

Hope this is a help.

Look forward to chatting, but be warned, on A-37's I'm a talkaholic ; ) so
grab a cup of Java.

Kindest regards,

John
