[Public-List] Anchor windlass question

Thanks Michael,

Yep, i need to check on the gypsy, although I am leaning in the direction of on an electric windlass and washdown, as several other comments this AM have suggested.

Iam on the west coast and determined to go out into the Pacific, starting next summer/ fall cruising season once hurricane season is over. So an all chain rode is essential for coral bottoms, even around Hawaii. I dont like the idea of weight in the bow, and so plan to store the chain under the floor boards in the main cabin for passage making and move it forward as needed. The passages in the pacific are rather long, 30 days mexico to Marquesas, 25 days Seattle to Maui for example in an A30, so moving the chain around a few times doesnt seem to onerous.

I am planning on adding a 15 kg Rocna plow and a 40# fisherman (halibut ground line anchor with folding stock) maybe get rid off my existing danforth. I carried a fisherman in Alaska for a couple of decades and love the way they set on hard bottoms and cut through grass and weed.

I do have a SS bow roller but havnt mounted it yet, as still looking for something more substantial AND something that will fit the stem head casting better, without breaking the bank.

Thanks for the info!

Some kind of pressure washer for the chain will be needed. It's just barely OK swishing my 18' around before coming on deck. Those links pick up a lot of bottom goop. Cooties will end up in the bottom of your chain locker quickly.
