[Public-List] Anchor windlass question

Ahoy Glenn,

I set off for the South Pacific but turned back to Oahu - long story. At
the time I was sailing my Pearson 35, also a short waterline (25 feet),
with 250 feet of chain that I added in SF before sailing to Hawaii. My
plan was to sail to Alaska where, with the rocks, chain is best.

While chain would be very heavy on my Alberg 30, were I to head back to the
Pacific on the boat (I won't, purchased a Bayfield 36 in November that I
will take to the Pacific), I would find a way to lead the bulk of the chain
back to the center of the boat.

Sorry if I offended, my point was to suggest "mowing down coral" with chain
is not a good idea. Because you lived on Oahu, you understand.

Just my dos centavos,

Dennis
