Greg, Do you have teak veneer plywood bulkheads or actual plastic sided teak formica like bulkheads? As others have mentioned, the teak veneer bulkheads clean up nicely with paint stripper, acetone, various liquid boat soap, and light sanding. be careful if sanding as once the veneer is gone, the underlayment cant really be made to match the surface. I dont sand any veneer plywood, but do scrub with green kitchen sponges. Guards against wasting away the veener.

My engine hatch is plastic imitation teak laminate and does not clean up well at all. My ply bulkheads were black when I bought Dolce, and now are a nice bright teakish color. I stripped the wood six times with various combinations of paint stripper, soap, and acetone, each time scrubbing down and neutralizing with water and green abrasive sponge to get rid of the accumulated grime and mildew. Finally reached the bare surface then kept going to get the black streaks out of the grain.

Then built up a wonderful sheen with an undercoat of teak oil to rejuvenate the wood and six coats of furniture grade tung oil to seal and protect. Annually, I clean the surfaces with 409 and add either a coat of teak oil or tung oil to freshen the surface which ever comes out of the paint locker first. I varnished the head which looks great also, but dont like varnish as I know it will eventually go dark and need extra work to strip and refinish. Overall the tung oil Works great for me.
