[Public-List] Engine performance question

Gord,

Another thing you might check is the flame arrester on the carb air intake.  D oes she produce some black smoke? A restriction on the intake will cause her to run a bit rich.  The other's suggestions are for running to lean and not powering up because of poor fuel quality. Also c heck fuel filter if you have on in the fuel line to carb. Does your fuel tank have a drain as well?  Pull the plug and check to see if water and crud comes out.

Could be either one, rich or lean. Lean would not produce black smoke in exhaust.

Subject: [Public-List] Engine performance question

Hello friends -

Surprise is having a good year racing, and I hope to get away this weekend
for my first cruising overnighter.

Our Atomic IV, which is otherwise a good girl, has developed an odd
mannerism.  When starting from cold with the choke on, it fires right up but
stalls after about 20 seconds.  It starts strongly again right away, but
stalls.  After three or so repetitions of this, it runs weakly, slowly
gaining strength as it warms up.

When under way, it seems normal when in gear at idle for maneuvering but
never reaches normal revs when the throttle is opened.  It seems Œweak¹.

Anyone have any idea what is happening?
