[Public-List] Mast base

I made a new mast step out of a free scrap piece of fiberglass laminate
from a guy who builds big tanks for fuel.
The laminate was roughed up with 80 grit paper then I epoxied a couple
layers of plywood (left over plywood bulkhead project, Lloyds of London
Approved type) for the oval section. A few countersunk screws from the
laminate upwards into the plywood with epoxied over countersunk holes
and a coat of white spray paint did the trick.

It was inexpensive and easy.

Wow - there's two.... I've never heard of the mast step breaking. How
did it happen? The mast just stands on it, and should slide off it when
the stick is hoisted a few inches for lowering....
