That did help, thanks.  I made something similar.  I cut a glued up stock poplar board into what looks like a seat from a wood kitchen chair.  I put two cleats on the bottom back edge that straddle the coaming.  One leg on the front that props it up.    The cleats act like a slide so you can position the "sliding seat" all along the coaming.  I'd post a pix but they don't like pix here.
 
Next time out I'll see if it works.
