Great photos! Make the core solid glass around the rudder post. This is know
as head block, I am sure you found that around the perimeter of the cockpit
sole.

Subject: [Public-List] Re-Coring my Cockpit Floor #116

Hi everyone,

This past weekend I began the process of re-coring my cockpit floor. So
far it is going well, I've got a write up with pictures here:

http://sailboatseagrass.com/cockpit-core-replacement/

One issue, is the rudder tube. I want a solution that keeps the water out
of the new core, and the best way I can think of is to epoxy a fiberglass
tube to both the bottom skin, and the top skin. It won't keep water out of
the cockpit, but it should keep it from the core. I don't think I have the
room to add a stuffing box. Any better suggestions?
