Ahoy Mates! - I am the owner of Hull 69, Rocinante, and am in the process of bringing her back to her full capability ( and beauty). She is unusual in several respects and I suspect she may have been a custom order or extensively revamped. She has wheel steering, ( not necessarily factory installed), and she has all bronze portholes, four large, four small. They all open and the four large ones have lovely bronze screens, attached with thumbscrews, one of the four small ones has a screen.
So my question (s) is this - the outhaul for my boom is a cable that runs from aft forward inside the boom and is operated by a fold-up crank on the underside of the boom and forward near the reefing station. Is this typical for this period Alberg? And if so, any advice to get it functioning? I can crank it with great effort but it seems to not take up the slack. The cable does not seem to be broken - I can move it back and forth from the aft end, but not much. I have been spraying the mechanism with PB Blaster and working it, working it, in hopes of unfreezing it, but not much progress on that.
If anyone has dealt with this I would very much like to read of your experience.
Second question - my vessel had plumbing of some degree at one point, but not for a long time. I have a tank, some nasty old hoses, and, it seems, the memory of a working head. Some threaded fixtures to accommodate something. The discharge thru-hull has been removed and plugged, and there is no holding tank. I also find no evidence of any pumpout access. I am currently in the water and would prefer to not haul out at least until Fall, but would like to install a proper head with both holding tank and discharge capabilities. Any reason I could not do that from within ( not the discharge thru-hull), and have working head fed from my water tank and temporarily limited to a holding tank, the rest of the system to be installed when I next haul out?
And is there a consensus of any kind as to what the best system for the Alberg would be?
I apologize for the length of this inquiry. I have more, but I fear I am pushing the limit already.
Thanks, and I welcome your response.
	Fair winds to all!
