I've gone through a series of ignition switches, all of which suck
for one reason or another. Some wouldn't turn on when needed due
to corrosion. One kept turning itself off because of a weak
spring/detente. Both of these problems can be solved
temporarily hotwiring the engine. The current switch has lasted
longer than average and is a Cole-Hersee with a rubber boot over
the keyhole. When it fails, I'll be looking at toggle switch
for the ignition and a push button for the start, both
submersibly waterproof. The keyhole is the problem.
