[Public-List] Ice box insulation

I think I will have to test that. A few years ago I used Great Stuff to make models of random cloud shapes to test against a method of photographic volume estimation. To get the "ground truth" volume we submerged them in water and measured the displacement. In each case we weighed the shape before and after to estimate water absorption and it was negligible. This was for short (10 minute) submergences though. I would think a test of week full submerged would be a good indication.

I have 3 cans of the stuff because I was going to use it for my icebox fix, which I have not gotten around to.

I did some research years back, and Great Stuff was NOT recommended. I think the reason was that it absorbs moisture, but I'm not sure. There were other foams that were suited to the job, but you couldn't pick those up in Home Depot.

Yesterday I removed all of the cabinetry and counter top on the ice box on our boat an found that it was an integrated piece of the liner. There is no access between the ‘box’ and the surrounding liner. I did measure the distance from the inside of the box to the outside of the liner and there is only 1”-to-1.24” space. Hardly enough room for very much insulation. The ONLY insulation I found (and removed) was some cheap white foam under the countertop. I am trying to figure out how to improve the efficiency of the ice box, but was wondering what others have done? You advice and suggestion are appreciated.
