I'm still having troubles with the details.
It goes from the exhaust manifold into the locker
with piping, that I get, but how does that attach
to the muffler. Is there a short section of hose or...?
Is the the muffler sitting horizontal on some shelf in the locker?
Or is it lying at an angle?

Har har. But this is almost certainly not true. The fuel leaves
the tank on a regular basis, to be burnt in your engine. So you
have a fuel hose moving through more or less the same space as
the exhaust. On my boat it goes from the tank through the
bulkhead to the port locker where the fuel filter is. This is at
the corner between the bulkhead between the engine room and the
port locker and the port locker and the cabin, which is where I
think you have your muffler. From that spot, my fuel hose goes
through the bulkhead again to the fuel pump on the engine. The
hot exhaust is relatively well separated from the fuel line. So
I'm wondering how you do it with your set up?

Yes, there's a hose.

It's at an angle, sitting in the bottom corner of the locker.

My tank is under the cockpit sole. The fuel filter is on the starboard
side of the engine compartment, just forward of the engine and up high.
The fuel line from there goes under the engine to the fuel pump.

Dan,
Cut the shackle off the wire and sew the wire to your new all line halyard. Pull the new one in by using the existing rope end.? The new all line halyard doesn't know one end from the other.
